Analysis and Design of Slope Compensation Circuit in Power Adapter

  The power adapter is a kind of power supply that uses modern power electronic technology to control the turn-on and turn-off time ratio of the switching transistor to maintain a stable output voltage. Compared with linear power supplies, it has high efficiency, high power density, and can realize and output.   The power adapter is generally composed of a pulse width control (PWM) IC, a power switch tube, a rectifier diode, and an LC filter circuit. In the small and medium power power adapter, the power switch tube can be integrated in the PWM control IC. The power adapter is divided into voltage mode and current mode according to the feedback mode. The current mode power adapter has been rapidly developed and widely used due to its outstanding advantages. But the structure of the current mode determines that it has two shortcomings: constant peak current rather than constant average current caused by open loop instability of the system: open loop instability of the system when the duty cycle is greater than 50%.

  This article aims to analyze the shortcomings and improvements of the traditional current mode in principle, and then analyze a practical slope compensation circuit.

  2. Principle analysis of current mode

  The scanner power adapter can have many structures, but the principles are basically similar. Figure 1 is a schematic diagram of the current mode step-down chopper fg (Buck) power adapter. The main difference between it and the voltage mode is the addition of current sampling resistor R3 and current amplifier IA. The resistance of R3 is generally small to avoid large power consumption.
