Examples of 110W offline flyback power adapter performance

  Although the most typical design method assumes that the system can work in both complete energy transfer mode (discontinuous mode), but also in the entire working range, it is impossible for the system to maintain incomplete energy transfer mode (two of the four working modes in continuous mode). Correspondingly, a simple design method is used here, that is, it is assumed that there are some working modes in the working range that can work in two working modes. This method has higher efficiency due to the reduction of the primary and secondary current peak values.

  Overvoltage protection: 5V voltage is only when the converter is disconnected, for example, no quick action is required

  Power circuit

  The use of a single-ended flyback system without a secondary side regulator can meet the above performance requirements (see figure). In order to meet the needs of dual input voltage, the input power adapter rectifier should use voltage doubler technology when the input is set to 110V. Therefore, the rectified DC voltage is close to 300V at 110V or 220V rated input.

  The voltage generated by the primary current flowing through the emitter resistor R1 effectively limits the primary power. This waveform also plays a control role in the current control mode. An independent over-voltage protection circuit monitors the 5V output and cuts off the converter when the main control loop fails.

  In order to meet the requirements of low output ripple, a two-stage LC filter is suitable in this example, which can use standard dielectric capacitors to make the equipment cost lower (a suitable filter is given). It is assumed that the control circuit performs closed-loop control on the 5V voltage to get the best regulation effect. The detailed drive circuit is omitted here. Chapter 15 and Chapter 16 of the first part give suitable systems.
