Can different power supply brands be generally used? Different output voltage can not be used generally or alternatively; if same output voltage but rated current lower than the former power supply, it also can not be used alternatively; If same voltage and current, and same electrical character, same polarities, same connectors, then it can be used alternatively. Be remember that they must same electrical character, includes no load or full load output voltage range, conduction and radiation, safety requirement, current peak protection, etc. If same voltage, rated current big than the former power supply, so it needs to add a test, which use the rated output current of the former power supply to test the power supply which rated current higher and see if the output voltage meet the former power adapter.
According to safety requirement, DC voltage range of power adapter is ±5%, however, at the design beginning of some electrical products, for some certain reasons or circuit loss, set the voltage to a certain range, either the plus tolerance or negative tolerance. When changing the power supply for this kind of electrical product, we must fully understand its detailed electrical character. If changing the power supply without careful consideration, it most likely to cause it not working or cannot use, even destroy. That’s why sometimes no problem to use the original power adapter but not work once change it.

There are three reasons to not recommended to use different brands for replacement:

2. Different voltage: Different voltage with different power supply, one with 5V, the other with 12V, or other V.
3. Different current: different products use different current, even the same brand we have to confirm the voltage and current.
While choosing the power adapter, we must take brands into account. It is recommend to choose the well-known brands to ensure the high quality as well as safety.
